Twin Cities, what's good?
There's a new bookstore in town.
Welcome to Black Garnet Books! We are a Black, woman-owned bookstore located in the Twin Cities, Minnesota. Primarily stocking Adult and YA contemporary literature by Black and racially-diverse authors. We're incredibly excited to introduce everyone to underrepresented voices and stories, new and old, that support and affirm the cultures they're connected to.
Due to Covid-19, and the uncertainty the future with it holds, Black Garnet is hosting the majority of sales through Bookshop.org, and will soon have limited hours at our temporary location in partnership with Merci Tattoo. However, the goal is to open a physical space for our community to connect in, with diverse books as the foundation for that connection.

Thanks for all your support! See you soon!
We're on Bookshop!
Store founder, Dionne Sims, has curated her favorite books through Bookshop, as well as titles she's excited to read and/or get into your hands! If you're looking for a specific book that's not on any of the lists, you can search for it through Bookshop, and proceeds from your purchase will also support this indie bookstore (as long as you see our logo in the top-left corner of the page)!
UPDATE: We reached (way beyond) our stretch goal!
To see folks come together to spread the word about this bookstore, make the GoFundMe happen, AND financially back it in the span of a month has been so beautiful and overwhelming in the best way. Thank you so much!
Meet the heart behind the vision.
Dionne is a queer, Minnesotan designer. After receiving her Bachelor's in Communications, she used her love of storytelling and advocacy to dive into a career in User Experience Design. Still, her heart and passion stayed closely tied to reading, writing, and community-building.
She can be seen walking her Australian Shepherd-mix in either of the Twin Cities ("Saint Paul is great, y'all just been brainwashed"), or listening to podcasts like "The Read" and "99% Invisible" at her local indie café.
Hit us up with any questions, comments, or book requests! We'll do our best to respond ASAP.
